It is of importance that you note that if your fraud alert or active duty alert has been removed, Experian and TransUnion must be separately contacted.
Fraud alerts can be on your credit reports without paying a dime, and we just have two types:
- One-year Fraud Alert- if you believe you might fall victim of identity or theft, this fraud alert lasts for a year. You must renew it constantly to keep the fraud alert active. Requesting a free copy of your credit bureaus is an entitlement to you as long as you follow instructions.
- 7-years extended fraud alert requires a copy of your identity as a person or by phone based on the number provided prior to the opening of new accounts or change to existing accounts.
It could be that you have an extension on credit bureaus every month, for a year, from the three nationwide credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). As your name is removed from pre-screened credit card or insurance offers for 2years.
Do you want to extend Fraud Alert? Download a copy of the Equifax Extended Fraud Alert Request form. Kindly read the instructions, follow them and mail alongside other important documents.
Security Freeze
Also known as credit freeze, this helps to prevent third party and unauthorized access to your credit reports. It is regulated by the federal.
You need to place it separately on each of your nationwide credit bureau (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).
